As someone who’s been through the process of crowdfunding a book, I know it can be tough to raise the funds needed to make your project happen.
That’s why I wanted to share two intriguing but very different campaigns that are currently running, both by organisations in the north of England.
Test Signal: A Northern Anthology
If you’ve been on Twitter recently, you might have come across Test Signal, a new anthology of Northern Voices from Dead Ink Books, which will be produced in partnership with New Writing North. This book gives writers from the north of England the chance to submit their work and see it published in this fantastic collection.
The campaign is live on Kickstarter until Friday, 1 November 2019, so go and back it now!
Charlotte Brontë’s ‘little books’
The Brontë Parsonage Museum in Haworth have just announced a bid to purchase a rare historic item at auction, one of the ‘little books’ created by Charlotte Brontë when she was just 14 years old. As a teenager, Charlotte created a number of tiny manuscripts that feature handwritten stories.
‘The Young Men’s Magazine’ was a series of six tiny booklets, of which five are known to survive. The item up for auction is the fifth in the sequence, and as the Brontë Parsonage Museum already holds the other four, this purchase would complete their collection. These early stories also show Charlotte’s progression as a writer and share some of the themes explored in her later work.
The museum is asking for donations to support their campaign to bring the last ‘little book’ back to Yorkshire.
This short film includes more information about the books and their significance.
